Catholic Charities helped us create a new life in America. |
Massa, Vandi and their three children were refugees who sought asylum from war-torn Western Africa and the harsh conditions of a refugee camp where they spent four years before coming to Arizona. Through support from Catholic Charities, the family has settled into a new life with a true appreciation for the freedom our country offers. This is just one example of the Catholic Charities commitment to serving vulnerable people, addressing root causes of poverty and fostering global solidarity. Pictured here with Bishop Thomas J. Olmstead, this family is thriving. Massa is now an employee with Catholic Charities, assisting other refugee families as they find new lives in America.
You can help other families through your compassionate involvement....
"Full-A-List" is the inspiration of Vanessa Shaw, from St. Theresa's parish, who sought to find a way to build "armies of compassion" to fulfill the needs of needy newcomers to this country on the rosters of Catholic Charities' Refugee Resettlement Program.
Volunteers can choose to fulfill the wish lists of indiviudals on the list, or simply general needs. Catholic Charities supplies the parish "list leader" with a list of what's needed, such as sheets, towels, pots and pans, furniture, soap or other toiletries. The list leader disseminates the list to the parish, then dontations are collected by a prearranged date and delivered by these volunteers to a Catholic Charities site.
