DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct interviews and secure all appropriate information and records to complete necessary forms for persons requesting immigration counseling; prepare case files for continued follow-up; maintain contact with clients to keep records up-to-date; request documents for clients when necessary.
• Guide cases through all required phases of immigration procedures; submit necessary forms to INS on a timely basis; when necessary, make contact with appropriate U.S. Consulate abroad; assist clients with naturalization or derivative citizenship when eligible; inform INS and U.S. consulates of any change in status or address of clients.
• Prepare cases for visa appointments and is responsible for seeing to it that all documentation is in order for visa appointment for Managing Attorney's review; record number of visa appointments sent out of our office; record numbers of successful visa applications that we have processed.
• Inform client of cost for immigration services, including the fees charged by the INS and the processing fees charged by the office.
• Maintain accurate and complete records required for the immigration program; maintain statistical data on a daily basis and report statistics on a monthly basis to the Managing Attorney; answer correspondence promptly and professionally; maintain accurate progress sheet on activities in client's case.
• Work closely and cooperatively with the INS and USCC; learn of other social service programs that may be of assistance to our clients; make referrals to other programs when appropriate.
• Answer phone calls directed from the program secretary for information or scheduling of an appointment; act in a warm, friendly manner with clients; display diplomacy, courtesy, and tact in all interpersonal interactions; take and relay accurate messages to others in the office.
• Complete basic intake forms for clients; obtain accurate information on form; explain to client the nature of the services we provide and program goals.
• Operate personal computer and maintain statistical data regarding the immigration program.
• Perform any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to learn and apply immigration law
• Must be able to work amid distractions and be aware of the sensitive nature of the work and be cautious of ethical problems
• Must possess interviewing and case recording skills and have the ability to learn immigration procedures and obtain basic knowledge of the Immigration and Nationality Act as amended.
• Must be able to type accurately.
• Bilingual Spanish/English required.
• Minimum of High School Diploma or GED. Prefer some advance education (college).
• Must have at least one year experience working in an office environment.

SALARY: Grade 8 position. $10.89 to $13.10 an hour, depending on experience.
